Overview. The National Diploma (ND) in Agricultural Technology Programme is one of the accredited department in FECOLART and was reapproved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in July 2018. The Department offer ND in Agric. Tech. The department has produced outstanding graduates. The department has both commercial, Teaching and Research Farm with qualified lecturers, instructors and technicians. Presently, the department can boast of units with various facilities and equipments including Laboratories, animal production (Livestock, Micro livestock, Piggery, Poultry and Fishery), Crop Production (Arable, Some Tree crops, and Meteorological station), Agric extension studio and departmental library. Vision The vision of the department is: To establish an academic excellence To become the leading centre of excellence for agricultural education, research and entrepreneurial development in Nigeria. To also produce knowledge and innovative agricultural graduates worthy in skills and character through effective teaching research, entrepreneurial skills and practical exposure towards self-reliance and profitable agricultural practices. To produce a technician and technologist in the discipline/field or similar manpower in business occupation are being met through the totality of activities taking place in and the resources available to the department offering the programme.
Mission To provide education in the Science and Technology of Agriculture that will be functional and of academic excellence. Provide continuing opportunities for Agriculturists – Foresters, Farm Management and Agricultural Extension experts, Fisheries and Wildlife, Crop, Livestock and Animal Health specialists – and related disciplines in their areas of expertise and to make such training relevant to national needs. Improve agricultural potentials of local farmers by providing: (i) Extension services that will bring the results of research to their use and benefit; (ii) Opportunities for visits by local farmers to teaching, research and commercial farms of the college for mutual and beneficial interaction; (iii) Relevant short-term training for those involved in production and management of farm products for the acquisition of techniques for improved production. Provide opportunities for goal-oriented research in Agriculture and Agricultural Technology relevant to the country’s need in general and local needs in particular.
Academic Requirement for admission into National Diploma in Agricultural Technology. Five O’ level credit passes in SSCE or its equivalent examination which must include English Language, Mathematics, Agricultural Science/Biology and any one of the followings in not more than 2 sittings: Physics, Economics, Geography, Technical drawing, Food & Nutrition as well as Animal Husbandry/Fisheries.
Prospects in Agric. Tech After graduation diplomates are to: • Assist in planning and laying out all sizes of crop, animal and fish farms. • Employ modern techniques in the rearing of different types of livestock on large scale. • Employ modern techniques in land preparation, planting, management and harvesting of food and cash crops. • Assist in processing and storage of all agricultural produce • Assist in agricultural extension services.
